#BuyLess. #AppreciateMore.
I have never had an endless clothing budget, but I have learned that there are things worth saving your pennies for, just as there are things you are better off leaving behind on the rack.
Buy Less
I love to make clothes for myself and my daughter, whether that involves designing something new or repurposing something old. I am often disappointed if I am not able to buy a piece of clothing that catches my eye at a given moment – whether due to price, size, fit, fabric, etc. – but I get a true sense of accomplishment from coming up with my own designs instead.
I started sewing doll clothes as a child and moved on to making flannel overalls (yes, I am a product of the 90s!) and prom dresses for my friends in high school, at the same time I started designing and refashioning my own clothes.
More than 20 years later, I took my hobby and turned it into a bachelor’s degree in Textile Design & Communication, which taught me new skills and opened my eyes to design and production techniques in an industry that has fascinated me my whole life.
So, using the new skills I have learned, I hope to share and inspire others to think about their wardrobes differently, and in the process feel better about themselves.
Appreciate More
I have a passion for long dresses, vintage lingerie, whimsical accessories, and timeless design. The intersection of fashion and art inspires me, especially the influence they have on each other.
My interest in fashion history stems from an appreciation of how clothing serves as artistic expressions, telling stories about individuals and society as a whole, in addition to being something you just throw on. I’ve spent a lifetime researching and learning about, as well as experimenting with, different fashion trends – some more successful than others.
In more recent years, I have made it my mission to visit fashion exhibits whenever possible, drawing inspiration from both modern displays and traditional art found in museums.
Take a closer look at what’s in my wardrobe to see what I’ve collected over time, how my experiences influence each wardrobe choice, and why each piece holds a special meaning for me.
